CBS has announced it is canceling its soap opera As The World Turns after more than fifty years on the air.

The network says the show will air its final episode in September 2010 and end its run after 54 years.

It's the second soap canceled by CBS. The network canceled Guiding Light earlier this year. Guiding Light was the longest-running soap opera and ended its run after 72 years, 15 of them on radio.

With As The World Turns ending, only six soap operas remain on daytime television.
